Energy and Rituals Energy is just energy. How you use it is what counts. Tantric methods encourage increasing energy levels in your body and mind to levels that are controllable at the level of expertise you are at. If you increase the level of energy content past the level at which you can control the energy you will, of course, not be able to control the energy. If you cannot control the energy of your body and mind, you will be out of control. Being out of control is counter-productive and will not aid in growing. This is the problem with most spiritual methods that actually work. The student has finally found a method that brings effectiveness and is so happy that they go overboard in their efforts and wind up with more energy than they can control and are damaged, often severely. At this point, they do not gain understanding, they lose a method that could have aided them in real spiritual growth. A few spiritual writers have noted this as a problem. Dion Fortune in The Mystical Qabballah notes this excess of energy drawn from the macrocosem by spiritual workers who do not have sufficient training as the main reason many researchers in spirituality come to grief. The Golden Dawn moved their students carefully along a path of study and practice, slowly bringing them through a series of levels designed to keep the student from the hazard of too much energy to control. (Slowly may not be the right word. Israel Regardie suggests that the student spend a minimum of five (5) YEARS reading and studying only the INTRODUCTION!! Of his edition of the Golden Dawn.) Tantra has the unfortunate ability to increase energy levels in the body and mind beyond the student’s control very quickly. Of course, this is also a fortunate ability since the student with patience and a good guide will be able to reach very high levels of energy with excellent control. Of great importance here are the lesser rituals. None of the greater rituals will be effective without the support of the lesser rituals. Only an exceptional student (of course, that means you and I) will be able to handle the high energies of the greater rituals without the intensive practice and understanding of the lesser rituals. (Well, I'm not too sure about me!) Many of the teachers of Tantra have demanded that the student practice the lesser rituals intensively for many years or even lifetimes before the greater rituals were introduced. In almost all schools or methods of teaching, only a few greater rituals were ever introduced to the student. Each student was given a few greater rituals to use in their lifetimes. Only the student with the highest abilities were granted the use of many of the greater rituals. In fact, only a few masters knew or were aware of more than a handful of the greater rituals. In each era of the earth the greater rituals were (or are) known by only a few humans. These are not always the most advanced seeming people. Often the greater rituals and the knowledge of these rituals are given to the few who live ordinary lives, passing the rituals to only one or two of their students. Sometimes these students do not even know they are students. This is quite similar to the selection of the Dali Lama in that it seems to be given unto a few (only one in this case) and they do with the knowledge much as they see fit. The difficulty here is that no one seeks them out to train them in the use of the knowledge. Thus, these bodhisattvas or enlightened ones are on their own and often never even gain the full awareness of what they have been born with. This great connection is often ignored and only a few have it fully open, but most if not all humans can have it opened and available to them for use. How do you know if you can have these great secrets opened to you? If you have those moments of deep inspiration, those deep moments of higher spiritual visions, then you have these already open to you. You will likely need to be guided through the difficulties of reaching these spiritual energies safely. The joy of this is that you can get these higher levels of spiritual awareness and the enormous energy that is available by learning the methods available to reach them. If you don’t have a teacher or a guide, you will be at a disadvantage but can still reach the higher levels with dedicated work. The fact that you are reading this gives you the opportunity to use this work and the associated writing as a guide to aid in reaching higher levels. Use the available material wisely. Learn and practice the lesser rituals. When you have gained a massive amount of energy from a greater ritual, step down from the high energy before you fall and crash. The gaining of high energy levels is irresistible and few students can keep from seeking the rewards of these levels. When you do these levels, don’t keep the energy at the high levels to such a length of time that you harm yourself and those around you. Let some of the energy go and drop back to controllable levels. Return to lesser rituals quickly and allow yourself to grow. With time, you will be able to sustain the high energy and you will learn that the control and maintaining of these energy levels is through use of the lesser rituals on a constant basis. The lesser rituals, empowered by the energy of the higher rituals become the most powerful of all the rituals when used correctly by long practice. You will not be able to understand nor reach the glory available to you until you have empowered the lesser rituals with the energy of the higher rituals. This is the true secret of strength. Practice the lesser rituals constantly. Add the energy of the higher rituals cautiously and carefully to the lesser rituals and you will be astounded by the joy and enlightenment available.
